about

"Turbulent Zone" is my solo album of fretless bass with prime-number tuning. Originally released In 1998, a time when I had the urge to explore a sonic world that I never entered before. The composer Terasaki Keitaro suggested that I consider using prime numbers. I developed several practical tunings for bass, and decided to inhabit this turbulent sonic world in a trance-like state.

A couple of decades later, I woke up to this volatile world--in the midst of a global pandemic and grave injustice; on the verge of environmental collapse. For better or worse, I found it relevant to re-release this album today. This time, however, we are all in the turbulent zone together.

My special thanks to Rick Turner, Terasaki Keitraro, JC Morrison, Kawana Takeshi, James Fei, Nuno Rebelo, Anita Culp and Matt Kohn. I delicate this music to my late father - a mechanical engineer who unexpectedly appreciated this music.
